Jacob Ulmer came to America with his parents at the age of three. The family settled in Lycoming County, Pennsylvania. After Jacob married Margaret Heim, also a German immigrant, they purchased 127 acres of woodland in Rose Valley where they built a log home and cultivated the fields for farming. The log cabin has since been replaced with another home, but the fields are still tilled by the Ulmers. The homestead, in the lower left corner, has been in the family since 1827. The border of roses represents the beloved Rose Valley that nestles the family farm.
